Skylight, glass roof and canopy structural calculation
Overhead glass needs the highest safety level. We check glass, supports and connections of skylights, glass roofs and canopies under snow and wind.
Why it matters
Snow stays on inclined and flat glass while wind creates uplift. Canopies add cantilever action and tie rods to the load path; overhead glass must be laminated with post-breakage capacity.
We check aluminium rafters and glass in skylights, and steel members, welds, tie rods and anchors in steel-supported canopies.
Systems
- Pyramid and ridge skylights
- Atrium glass roofs
- Entrance glass canopies
- Point-fixed glass canopies
- Tie-rod cantilever canopies
Standards

- EN 1991-1-4
- DIN 18008-2/-3
- EN 1999-1-1
- EN 1993-1-1

Skylights, Glass Roofs & Canopies
Can single toughened glass be used in a canopy?
Overhead glazing should be laminated to prevent falling after breakage. Thickness and interlayer are determined by calculation.
