CFD wind analysis for facades, roofs and canopies
Code tables cover rectangular buildings and simple roofs. For curved facades, canopies, pergolas and the influence of neighbouring buildings we determine wind pressures with computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Why it matters
EN 1991-1-4 allows wind tunnel testing or validated numerical methods for geometries outside its scope: curved or stepped towers, large cantilever canopies, open and semi-open pergolas, louvres, and closely spaced tall buildings.
We model the flow around the building, extract the pressure distribution (Cp) and convert it into design pressures ready for the structural calculation, compared against code values and published reference studies.
Systems
- Curved or stepped high-rise facades
- Large canopies
- Open and bioclimatic pergola roofs
- Louvres and perforated facades
- Building clusters
- Rooftop PV and signage
Standards

CFD Wind Analysis
Does CFD replace wind tunnel testing?
For very tall and unusual towers wind tunnel testing remains the reference. CFD is a strong tool for design-stage comparisons, non-standard small and mid-size structures, canopies and pergolas.
