Glass balcony and guillotine glass structural calculation
On upper floors, glass balconies and guillotine systems carry significant wind load. We size glass, tracks, profiles and anchors by calculation.
Why it matters
Panels in folding systems are held only by rollers and pins in the top and bottom tracks, so track, pin and ceiling anchor capacities become critical.
For guillotine systems the parked position, motor and counterweight are checked; if the lower part acts as a barrier, the horizontal barrier load is included.
Systems
- Folding glass balconies
- Sliding glass balconies
- Motorised and manual guillotine glass
- Restaurant and terrace enclosures
Standards
- EN 1991-1-4
- EN 1991-1-1
- DIN 18008
- EN 1999-1-1
- EN 1992-4

Glass Balcony & Guillotine Glass
From which floor is a calculation needed?
There is no fixed floor limit; wind load depends on location, exposure and height. Tall buildings, open terrain, coastal sites and corner balconies always require a calculation.
